Friday - Week 1

The Jets played yesterday, and I kinda fell off the blog challenge wagon. I'm not a huge footy fan (anymore) but still enjoy going to the odd game here and there - mainly for the beer and company. The Jet's fan numbers have really picked up since I've been away. A sprinkle of people used to turn up, now it's turned into quite a large scene. Can't be a bad thing...

Last night I was child-free and almost dragged myself up to the 'Take It or Leave It' ska night in Newtown but in the end couldn't be bothered. I went out to dinner instead and then watched a couple of movies with a friend. A quiet night which seen me up early this morning!

The Friday Ikea trip was fairly tame:

Bit of a crapola shot, but look at these great placemats I picked up for $1.50 each - they're silver backed:

Friday Night
Slackers menu: Roast chicken marinated in red wine, garlic and herbs with a crusty loaf (we demolished the whole bird)

After dinner snack: These yummy biscuits

Thursday - Week 1

Up and at 'em early this morning. We're going to Ikea!!! Master F has never been into the supervised play area before, so today is the day. I'll be left free to roam, collect and then dump at the checkouts before leaving! Bliss. I'm only going there to pick up a couple of cutlery stands as the two I've got are chockas. What's the bet I buy more.

Thursday Night

Main: Linguine Marinara (mother), shark & fried rice (child)
Dessert: too full

Notes: Child fried rice - one fresh cob of corn, carrot, eschallot, jasmine rice & oyster sauce - voila

Marinara mix - we are lucky enough to have a fine seafood provedore just down the road. The mix there is amazing with no yucky bits - $9.99 kg.

Wednesday - Week 1

Phew this blogging everyday thing is quite the chore. Luckily, I'm using a stock standard format with nothing too creative or I'd really be pushing the mental boundaries. Career wise, I've always written reports and manuals. My personal journals are very straight to the core with no descriptive nonsense. I'm certainly not the imaginative one I thought I'd be, given half a chance. Anyway enough of that and onto the food.

Wednesday Night

Main: Lamb cutlets w/ salad
Dessert: Scotch finger chocolate biscuits

Cutlets: slow baked, seasoned with olive oil, salt and dried rosemary
Salad: baby cos, egg, avocado, cucumber, carrot - mayo (child) caesar (mother)

Notes:

child rolls up lettuce with salad inside

Tuesday - Week 1

I didn't realise how difficult it is to photograph food. Finger marks, steam, stray bits of rice, ice cream placement etc all ready to spoil a shot. I'll be on the lookout for any trouble makers tonight.

Tuesday Night

Main: Chicken & veg stir-fry w/ jasmine rice
Dessert: Ready frozen chocolate pudding (child) - waffles, ice cream, real maple syrup & berries (mother)

Ingredients:
Pics are fairly explanatory
Stir-fry sauce: 5 spice powder, dry sherry, oyster sauce, soy, cornflour, water

Other: Homemade apricot, nut and seed bars for arvo snacks

Monday - Week 1

Slack Blogger has decided to set a challenge for herself to get back into the swing of things.

I cook most nights, so for one whole week I'll be blogging our dinner menu each night. I'll list the ingredients, but if someone out there wants a recipe I can post that too.

Monday Night

Main: Meatballs on bowtie pasta (in a leopard skin bowl - how tacky)
Dessert: none - too full

Meatballs: 250g beef mince, onion, fresh soft bread crumbs, fresh parsley, s&p and an egg - fried in olive oil
Sauce: tomato puree with a spash of red wine
Other: microplaned cheddar (child), shaved parmesan (mother) and buttered sour dough (was going to do garlic/herb bread but the oven element blew up - getting fixed as I type)

Notes:
child will eat more if allowed to assemble own dish... red wine too rich, leave out next time

Verdict: My bowl was empty. Child left sauce and two meatballs.

Block Cardi Completed

I finally got around to sewing up the block cardi. Overall it was an easy knit and the i-cord edging really did the trick in the finishing.

I used Eleni that I got on sale at Spotty for 50c a ball, so the jumper cost $2.50 plus 3 x $1.50 for the buttons. Total cost $7!

Master F and I headed up to All Buttons Great and Small and he picked out some buttons. Nice choice!

I hope he's going to wear it... I had to bribe him with a park trip so I could take some pics.. outlook not good.

Yesterday's Haul

Sick child. Home from preschool. Home from swimming lessons. Three coughing nights. Very tiring. But there's a bright side.

On the way to the Dr's yesterday we dropped into a small obscure Christian charity shop and came out with:

Rare button finds in the inner suburbs!
